Liebe WordCamp Retreat-Interessierte,

leider müssen wir euch mitteilen, dass wir das WordCamp Retreat um ein Jahr verschieben werden. Was das für euch bedeutet beschreiben wir weiter unten. 

Aufgrund der aktuellen Lage durch das Corona-Virus haben wir in Absprache mit dem WordPress Community Support entschieden, dass eine Verschiebung des Retreats die beste Lösung ist.

Gerade durch das besondere Format (alle über einen längeren Zeitraum an einem Ort einschließlich Übernachtung) haben wir bei dem WordCamp Retreat einen deutlich höheren Kostenfaktor als bei üblichen WordCamps. Je länger wir die Entscheidung hinauszögern desto höher wird das Kostenrisiko für uns (Storno-Gebühren durch das Hotel) sowie für euch als Teilnehmer (Bahn-Tickets, Anreisekosten, Storno-Gebühren für die Hotelzimmer). Leider können wir aufgrund dieser Faktoren unsere wie auch eure Planungssicherheit nicht gewährleisten. Heute war der letzte Tag, an dem wir dies kostenneutral so entscheiden konnten.

Wir sind von dem Konzept des WordCamp Retreats überzeugt und haben uns deshalb für eine Verschiebung des Events entschieden. In Absprache mit dem Hotel Park Soltau findet das WordCamp Retreat voraussichtlich Anfang Mai 2021 statt. Einen genauen Termin veröffentlichen wir sobald wir den Zeitpunkt mit dem Hotel und dem WordPress Community Support vereinbart haben.

Mit allen, die bereits ein Ticket gebucht haben, werden wir zeitnah Kontakt aufnehmen.
Sponsoren werden von uns ebenso wie Speaker und Volunteers kontaktiert.

To everyone that is interested in WordCamp Retreat Soltau

Dear people,

Unfortunately we have to inform you that we will postpone the WordCamp Retreat for one year. What this means for you is described below. 

Due to the current situation surrounding the Corona virus we have decided in consultation with the WordPress Community Support that a postponement of the Retreat is the best solution. 

Because of the special format (with all attendees being together over a longer period of time at one place including overnight stay) we have a much higher cost factor than usual WordCamps. The longer we delay the decision the higher the cost risk for us (cancellation fees of the hotel) as well as for you as participants (train tickets, travel costs, cancellation fees for the hotel rooms). Unfortunately, we can’t securely move forward without the risk being too high for us as well as you. Today was the last day on which we could decide this cost-neutral.

We are convinced of the concept of the WordCamp Retreat and have therefore decided to postpone the event. In agreement with the Hotel Park Soltau the WordCamp Retreat will probably take place at the beginning of May 2021. We will publish an exact date as soon as we have arranged the date with the hotel and the WordPress Community Support.

We will contact everyone who has already booked a ticket as soon as possible.

Sponsors will be contacted by us as well as speakers and volunteers.

Do you need a visa to attend WordCamp Retreat?

People travel from all across the world to attend WordCamps in Germany.

Entry requirements vary by country; for example European Union citizens won’t need a visa, but a passport or other valid ID will be needed.

Depending on your nationality, passports must be valid for up to six months and are required for all visitors to Germany, except for European Union citizens and some other nationals holding valid national ID cards.

For more information on Germany’s visa requirements, please visit the Federal Foreign Office website.

We can provide you with a letter of invitation

If you need to apply for a Visa to visit Germany then we can assist. We will be happy to supply attendees with a letter of invitation that you can include with your visa application.

Please submit the following informations (First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth (dd-mm-yyyy), Home Address, Passport Number, Date of Issue (dd-mm-yyyy), Date of Expiration (dd-mm-yyyy), Issuing Authority, Nationality) by email to soltau@wordcamp.org and allow up to 5 days for us to process your request. Requests for visa letters will be open until 1st April 2020 – make sure you send in your application before the deadline.

Please note that you must have already purchased your ticket for WordCamp Retreat as we can only supply a letter of invitation to booked attendees. Should the visa request be refused, you may send us an email asking for a refund.

It’s important to us that everyone who attends WordCamp Retreat is treated equally, respected and protected, so by attending you agree to abide by our Code of Conduct.

Dann sicher Dir rechtzeitig Dein Ticket! Heute um 08.11.2019 um 18 Uhr geht es los! Das Ticket kostet 60,00 € zzgl. Übernachtungskosten. Folgende Zimmer stehen zur Verfügung:

• Doppelzimmer und Juniordoppelzimmer
  81,30 € pro Zimmer und Nacht für 2 Personen

Im Preis inbegriffen ist die komplette Verpflegung in Buffet-Form vom 30. April 2020 morgens bis zum 3. Mai 2020 nachmittags (3x Frühstück, 3x Mittagessen, 2x Abendessen).

Auf dem Programm stehen Sessions zu WordPress, Contributing und im Rahmen dieses neuen Formats gemeinsame Aktivitäten.

Do you want to attend the WordCamp Retreat Soltau?

be sure to get your ticket in time! On Sunday, the 08th of November at 6 pm, our ticket sale starts. The tickets price is 60,00 € plus costs for accommodation. The following rooms are available:

• Single room
  64,70 € per person and night
• Double room and junior double rooms
  81,30 € per room and night for 2 persons

The ticket includes all the meals (buffet) from April 30th, 2020 in the morning until May 3th, 2020 in the afternoon (3x breakfast, 3x lunch, 2x dinner).

The program contains WordPress sessions, contributing and activities as part of the new format.

WordCamps sind bewusst inklusive. Von erschwinglichen Ticketpreisen bis hin zu Live-Transkripten gibt es viele Möglichkeiten, wie die Organisatoren des WordCamp Retreat Soltau versuchen sicherzustellen, dass unsere Veranstaltung für alle zugänglich und einladend ist, unabhängig von finanziellen Hintergründen, körperlichen Fähigkeiten, ethnischer Zugehörigkeit, Geschlecht oder anderen Faktoren.

Häufig sehen wir bei Tech-Veranstaltungen ein Ungleichgewicht im Speaker Lineup. Es ist für das WCRetreat Soltau Organisationsteam äußerst wichtig, dass wir eine Veranstaltung mit einem ausgewogenen und vielfältigen Spektrum an Speakern durchführen, die die WordPress Community und unsere Gesellschaft besser widerspiegelt.

Die Bühne des WordCamp Retreat Soltau ist ein Ort, an dem du Ideen ausprobieren, Wissen austauschen und dein Publikum begeistern kannst. Wir möchten noch mehr Menschen ansprechen und sie ermutigen, sich für Vortrags- oder Gastgeberaktivitäten bei WCRetreat Soltau zu bewerben. Hilf uns, die gesellschaftlichen Barrieren zu beseitigen und die Wahrnehmung von Gruppen, die oft an den Rand gedrängt werden, zu verbessern, indem du Redner vorschlägst, die deiner Meinung nach im Rampenlicht stehen sollten.

Diversity and inclusion at #WCRetreat Soltau

WordCamps are intentionally inclusive. From affordable ticket prices to live captioning, there are many ways that WordCamp Retreat Soltau organisers try to ensure our event is accessible and welcoming to everyone, regardless of financial background, physical ability, ethnicity, gender, or other factors.

Often at tech events, we see an imbalance in the representation of speakers. It is extremely important to the WCRetreat Soltau Organising Team that we deliver an event with a balanced and diverse range of speakers that better reflects the WordPress community and our society.

The stage at WordCamp Retreat Soltau is a space to explore ideas, share knowledge and inspire your audience. We would like to reach out to even more people and encourage them to apply to speak or host activities at WCRetreat Soltau. Help us to remove society’s barriers and improve representation of groups that are often marginalised by suggesting speakers you think should be in the spotlight.

Recommend a speaker

We are continuously reviewing speaker applications to ensure our Calls for Speakers and activities have reached a diverse audience. We have not yet received applications that appropriately reflect wider demographics of society, so we’re reaching out to our community.

Would you like to speak at WCRetreat Soltau? Do you identify with an underrepresented group? We want you to participate.

Do you have a speaker suggestion for someone who you think will inspire an audience whilst giving a voice to an underrepresented group? Send them our way!

Are there people from the WordPress community who you would like to see on stage or who you think would make an impact on our audience? Encourage them to apply.

We also encourage suggestions of people who may not be a current voice within WordPress, but who could collaborate with the community and share their skills and experience with us.

Share your suggestions with us so that we can reach out to those people and invite them to answer our Call for Speakers.

There are lots of ways to get involved with WCRetreat 2020, and whether you plan to join us as an attendee, or plan to apply as a Volunteer, Speaker or a Sponsor, we wanted to highlight some key dates so that you know what to expect (and when to prepare your application).

We open a selection of calls and invite our community to help shape WCRetreat. For example, the Call for Speakers opens up the floor for anyone who wants to share their story and insights on stage to put themselves forward.

We also have some important dates and deadlines to share, including the deadline for requesting visa invitation letters and the final chance to register for Contributor Day.

So if you’ve found yourself wondering when we’ll open the Call for Sponsors, the last date you can get a ticket and everything in between, you’re in luck. Here is the timeline of calls and key information for WCRetreat 2020.

We’ve covered the most important dates in the run-up to WCRetreat 2020 here so you can scribble reminders into your calendar if you want to.
